This Privacy Policy explains how the mobile application Smart Document Scanner (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles your information. The App is designed to process documents locally on your device as much as possible and to give you clear control over when and how you share your content.

1. Information We Process

1.1 Document Images & Scans

When you scan documents using the App, the captured images and generated PDFs are stored locally on your device. By default, they are not uploaded to any server controlled by us.

You can choose to share exported files (e.g., via email, messaging apps, cloud drives). In those cases, the transfer happens through the third‑party apps or services you select, under their own privacy policies.

1.2 Text Recognized from Documents (OCR)

The App uses on‑device machine learning (e.g., Google ML Kit) to recognize text in your documents. Recognized text and derived metadata (such as document type, totals, dates, vendors, tags, detected emails/phone numbers/URLs) are stored in the App’s local database on your device so that:

You can search your documents by content.
You can use smart actions (call/email/open link, add to calendar, etc.).
You can see enriched information about receipts, invoices, IDs, and notes.

This recognized text is not sent to our own servers. Some ML features may rely on Google Play services or Google ML Kit libraries; for details of how Google may process data, please review Google’s own privacy policy.

1.3 Analytics Data

The App uses Google Analytics for Firebase to collect anonymous or pseudonymous usage information, such as:

App launches and basic screen views.
High-level feature usage (e.g., scans started, exports performed).
Device and OS information (model, Android version, country/locale).

This information helps us understand how the App is used, improve stability and performance, and prioritize new features. Analytics data does not include the actual contents of your documents or the text recognized from them.

1.4 Crash & Error Reports

The App uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and certain technical diagnostics when the App encounters a serious error. This typically includes:

Device model and OS version.
App version and build information.
Stack traces and state information around the crash.

Crash reports are used solely to identify and fix bugs and improve the quality of the App. Crashlytics does not intentionally collect your document contents or OCR text; however, limited contextual data (e.g., screen names) may be included.

2. How We Use the Information

To provide core features such as scanning, cropping, filtering, and exporting documents.
To enable smart features: text recognition, document classification, automatic tagging, and smart actions.
To improve app performance, reliability, and user experience based on anonymous usage analytics.
To diagnose crashes, errors, and technical issues via Crashlytics.

3. Data Storage & Retention

On-device storage: Your scanned images, PDFs, recognized text, and metadata are stored locally on your device and remain there until you delete them or uninstall the App.
Analytics & crash data: Usage and crash data sent to Firebase are retained according to Google Firebase’s standard retention policies. We do not individually identify you from that data.

4. Permissions

The App may request the following permissions:

Camera – to capture photos of your documents for scanning.

Permissions are only used for the purposes described and can be revoked at any time from your device settings. If you revoke a permission, some features of the App may stop working.

5. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can take appropriate steps.

6. Third-Party Services

The App relies on third-party services such as:

Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics).
Google ML Kit (on-device text recognition, language detection, translation).

7. Your Choices & Controls

You can delete documents and scans at any time from within the App; this will remove them from the local database and app storage.
You can uninstall the App to remove all locally stored data associated with it from your device.
You can manage analytics and personalization settings from your Google Account and/or device settings, where applicable.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information processed by the App. However, no mobile app or online service can guarantee absolute security. Please keep your device secure and use a strong screen lock.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, technologies, or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top. Your continued use of the App after an update means that you accept the revised policy.
