1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how DecibelPulse: Sound Meter ("we", "our", or "the app") treats user data and privacy. We believe that privacy is a fundamental human right. DecibelPulse has been engineered with a strict privacy-first architecture: it executes all acoustic calculations locally on your physical device without ever transmitting or storing audio content.

2. Permissions & Data Handling

A. Audio Recording Permission (android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO)

DecibelPulse requests access to your device's microphone solely for acoustic analysis.

  • Purpose: To measure ambient Sound Pressure Levels (SPL), compute Root Mean Square (RMS) decibel values, and visualize real-time frequency/oscilloscope waves.
  • Volatile Memory Only (RAM): Audio buffers captured from the microphone are held temporarily in volatile memory (RAM) for real-time mathematical analysis.
  • No Audio Recording or Files: The application does not record, encode, or store audio files (such as MP3, WAV, or AAC). Once a frame's decibel amplitude is computed, the audio stream is instantly dropped from memory.
Important Assurance: DecibelPulse does not have the ability to listen to speech or store conversations. No audio files or recordings ever leave your device or get saved to storage.

B. Local Database & Session Storage

  • Session Logs: When you manually choose to record a "Noise Session", DecibelPulse stores only numerical metrics (timestamp, duration, min dB, max dB, and average Leq dB) in a private local SQLite database on your device.
  • User Control: You have full control to view, export, or permanently delete any session or the entire history at any time through the app interface.
  • Data Removal: If you uninstall the application, all locally saved session logs and preferences are permanently removed by the Android operating system.

C. Data Export (CSV)

If you use the CSV Export feature, the app compiles your selected noise session metrics into an RFC-4180 standard CSV file in your device's private cache and invokes the Android System Share Sheet. You choose the destination (such as Google Drive, Email, or Local Files). DecibelPulse does not send this file anywhere on its own.

3. Personal Information & Telemetry

  • No User Accounts: No sign-up, email, login, or personal profile is required to use DecibelPulse.
  • No Analytics SDKs: We do not include third-party trackers, analytics libraries (e.g. Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Mixpanel), or crash reporting trackers.
  • No Advertising: DecibelPulse contains no ad networks or tracking beacons.
  • No Internet Permission: The app does not request or use the android.permission.INTERNET permission.

4. Third-Party Services & Links

DecibelPulse does not communicate with or transfer data to any third-party services, APIs, or data brokers.

5. Children's Privacy

DecibelPulse is a standard acoustic measurement utility. Because our application does not collect, retain, or share any personal information whatsoever, it is safe for all audiences and complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and GDPR-K.

6. Security of Your Data

Because all measurements remain on your physical hardware, your data security is backed by Android’s sandboxed application architecture. No data is exposed across the internet.

7. Updates to This Policy

We may occasionally update this Privacy Policy to reflect app updates or regulatory requirements. Any modifications will be posted here with an updated "Effective Date".
